Sadly the club colours fly at half-mast this weekend as we honour the passing of former player Alan Rhodes. He was 85 years old.
For so many who played or watched him; Alan was viewed as one of the best players to ever wear the black, red and white.
His rugby career began at Hipperholme Grammar School in the 1950’s, where he had captained the First XV, before joining the Brods and quickly breaking in to the first team under captain Norman Lister.
In 1961 Alan began a successful Rugby League career when he signed for Halifax which later led to two stints at Bradford Northern (where he played and coached) and Huddersfield.
Our thoughts are with Alan’s family at this time. Funeral details will follow once confirmed.
There will be a minute’s silence ahead of the Boxing Day fixture with Cleckheaton this Tuesday at 11am.
Update: Alan’s funeral will take place at 2.15pm on Wednesday 17th January at Park Wood Crematorium in Elland, HX5 9HZ
