10th anniversary music festival goes the xtra mile

Thousands of revellers joined us at the Brods on Saturday for the biggest event ever staged at Woodhead Park as volunteers pulled out all the stops to make our tenth festival "xtra" special.

The weather definitely played it's part as blue skies and bright sunlight presided over the grounds, including the brand new Vocation Beer Garden Stage, an extended second stage marquee, and an increased site capacity which took us over the 6000 mark for the first time.

Surprises along the way!
The Brodstock X-factor ran throughout the festival all day. The Main Stage featured our biggest ever band, the 22-piece Revo Street Band. There was a big screen streaming the performances, kindly funded by CultureDale, and several surprise guest appearances that revellers soaked up.

The line up of performers was already extremely strong, on all three performance areas, but adding further sparkle to the day were the unannounced sets from Ellie Sax, The Caymans and a collaboration with Jimbo Lynch and The Sequels.

Local rugby legend Gareth Widdop was draw master for our biggest ever Community Raffle, that raised over £15,000 and including a first prize of £1000, kindly supported by Caravan Guard.

Brodstock Ultra
Another festival first was an extreme fundraising challenge! It was the brain child of Brods U7s coach Chris Green who led a six man team on a 40 mile run around rugby clubs throughout Halifax and Huddersfield. The Brodstock Ultra, in partnership with Focus4Hope, began at the Main Stage at 7.30am on festival day. The runners then completed their circular route by returning to the Main Stage, mid-afternoon, to a huge reception from the crowds.
They have a fundraising target of £10k so click here to see how that's going and please support them if you haven't already.

Fundraising targets smashed
The Brodstock aim was to raise over £30,000 this year. With a bumper raffle raising £15,000 plus a £5000 contribution going to each of the Overgate Hospice, AndysManClub, Calderdale MS Group and the Old Brods, we see the funding target has been surpassed. But that doesn't include what all the charity stalls made on the day, plus the additional £7000 (at the time of writing) raised but the Ultra runners.

Volunteer heroes
If you helped with the event in anyway, we'd just like to put on record our heart-felt thanks for contributing to a truly outstanding event. Whether you helped for a couple of hours on the big Sunday "take down", put a shift in on the Saturday or were part of the clan that booked days off work in the run up to Saturday; we'd just like to say a huge thank you for making Brodstock X possible.
Your commitment, teamwork, selfishness and ruddy hard graft has achieved something special. Something that is loved by so many and has made a huge financial contribution to some outstanding local causes. Amazing.
